Trump appoints son’s ex-fiancee as ambassador to Greece

(Adnkronos) – Donald Trump appoints Kimberly Guilfoyle, the former face of Fox News who was Donald Trump Jr.’s girlfriend, as ambassador to Greece. “Kimberly has been a friend and ally for many years, her extensive experience and leadership in the legal, media, and political fields, along with her keen intelligence, make her immensely qualified to represent the United States and protect its interests abroad,” the president-elect wrote on Truth Social.

Guilfoyle, who became famous for her passionate, and somewhat over-the-top, speeches at the Republican conventions that crowned Trump, became engaged to Trump’s son in 2018 after her divorce from Vanessa Trump. The two have now broken up and Donald Jr. is linked to socialite Bettina Anderson. The future ambassador, who will face a Senate confirmation hearing, was previously a prosecutor in San Francisco, when she was married to Mayor Gavin Newsom, now the Democratic governor and one of Trump’s main critics.

Hers is not the first diplomatic appointment of someone close to the tycoon’s family. He chose his daughter Ivanka’s father-in-law, Charles Kushner, a real estate developer who served time in prison for tax offenses and other charges and was pardoned during Trump’s first term, as ambassador to France, and Lebanese-born businessman Massad Boulos, father-in-law of other daughter Tiffany, as advisor for the Arab world and the Middle East.
