South Korea, police raid president’s office, former defense minister attempts suicide in prison

(Adnkronos) – Police raid the presidential offices in Seoul. Meanwhile, the former South Korean Defense Minister, Kim Yong-hyun, attempted suicide in a detention center. Kim has been formally under arrest since the early hours of this morning. For Yoon, who last week tried to impose martial law in the country, but was soon revoked, the calls for him to step down are multiplying.  

This morning, as part of the investigation, according to the South Korean agency Yonhap, the police searched the presidential offices, seizing material. Yoon was not present at the time of the operation. Searches were also confirmed at the offices of the Seoul Metropolitan Police and the National Assembly security. 

Meanwhile, the same agency reports, relaunching news confirmed by the Ministry of Justice, that the former defense minister attempted suicide in the Seoul detention center where he is being held on charges of “insurrection” and now his condition is defined as “stable “. He allegedly tried to take his own life in the bathroom, during the night, by making a rope out of linen. Kim is accused of suggesting to the president to impose martial law.
