(Adnkronos) – Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, 79, is alert and “improving” after undergoing surgery to remove an intracranial hemorrhage, the result of a fall at home on October 19. This was stated in a note by the Syrian-Lebanese hospital in Sao Paulo where Lula was hospitalized and operated on.
Lula remains hospitalized in intensive care under observation. According to his doctors, he is expected to be discharged next week. In the meantime, Lula’s deputy, Geraldo Alckmin, is exercising the functions of president.
