(Adnkronos) – “I have deployed nuclear warheads. Several dozen warheads. Many say it’s a joke and that no one has deployed anything. Yes, we did. And the fact that the opponents say it’s a joke means that they haven’t understood. They have overlooked how we brought them here”. This was stated by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to the BelTa news agency, observing that using this type of high-powered weapon carries a great deal of responsibility. “Since Hiroshima and Nagasaki,” he added, “no one has ever pressed the nuclear button. Not even the major powers, let alone Belarus.”
Previously, Moscow had announced plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus at the latter’s request. Moscow supplied Minsk with Iskander tactical missile systems capable of carrying nuclear weapons and helped Belarus refit its aircraft to carry specialized weapons. Most of the warheads were already in Belarus, and at the end of April 2024 Lukashenko had claimed that Russia had deployed several dozen nuclear warheads.
