Germany, Merkel’s memoirs sell 200,000 copies in first week

(Adnkronos) – Angela Merkel’s book “Freedom: Memories 1954-2021” – 736 pages in which the former chancellor retraces her political career – has sold over 200,000 copies in just one week, climbing to the top of the year’s best-selling books chart, according to an analysis by Media Control, which monitors sales in Germany. “No other book has had such a spectacular debut this year,” said Ulrike Altig, director of Media Control. Just a few days after its arrival on the shelves, the book, co-written with her advisor Beate Baumann, had climbed to the top of the bestseller lists.
