(Adnkronos) – South Korean opposition parties announced today that they have filed a motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol following the imposition – later revoked yesterday – of martial law in the country.
“We have submitted an urgently prepared impeachment motion,” representatives of six opposition parties, including the Democratic Party, said during a press briefing, adding that the vote on the motion, the date of which has not yet been decided, could take place as early as Friday.
The motion was signed by 191 lawmakers, without any support from the ruling party’s parliamentarians. The promoters plan to present the motion to the plenary session of parliament on Thursday, and then vote on it on Friday or Saturday, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
