(Adnkronos) – François Hollande “is not in favor of an impeachment procedure against the President of the Republic” Emmanuel Macron. With the censure weighing on the Barnier government, the former head of state does not want – unlike Jean-Luc Mélenchon – early presidential elections “in this context of instability and danger for the markets”.
Speaking on France Inter, Hollande called himself “responsible”. “If Michel Barnier falls because he does not have the support of the Rassemblement National, we will have to look for a prime minister who can obtain the consent of the majority of the National Assembly.”
“There is no majority around the New Popular Front to designate a Prime Minister from its ranks,” said the former President of the Republic, now a deputy for Corrèze, referring to the failure of Lucie Castets’ candidacy, even if – he wanted to emphasize – “it is not a personal problem”. (continues)
Jean-Luc Mélenchon hopes for an early presidential election, reiterated Hollande, quoted by Bfmtv. “He wants to run for president. He won’t be president, he knows that. He won’t even make it to the second round, he knows that too,” he said.
According to the deputy, who wants the presidential elections to be held as scheduled in 2027, the left must therefore “prepare, reconstitute itself and ensure that there is a candidate who can validly win the presidential elections”.
“The Insoumis are obsessed with the idea of bringing down not the Barnier government, but Emmanuel Macron and of indirectly holding the presidential elections to present Jean-Luc Mélenchon as a candidate. I’m sorry, I don’t agree with that”, he declared.
