Trump, ‘from January 20th tariffs against China, Mexico and Canada’

26 Novembre 2024

(Adnkronos) – Tariffs against China, Mexico and Canada. In a post on Truth Social, Donald Trump announced that from the first day of his presidency he will impose tariffs on goods arriving from those three countries. “On January 20th, among my first executive orders, I will sign all the necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% tariff on ALL products entering the United States, and on their ridiculous open borders,” wrote the US president-elect, adding that they will remain in place “until the drug, particularly Fentanyl, and all illegal aliens stop this invasion of our Country.”

According to Trump, “both Mexico and Canada have the absolute right and power to easily solve this long-standing problem…we ask that they use this power and, until they do, it is time that they pay a very high price!”.

The president-elect then turned to China, threatening further 10% tariffs until drugs stop “pouring into our Country, primarily through Mexico.” “I have had many discussions with China about the massive amounts of drugs, particularly Fentanyl, being sent into the United States, with no results,” Trump denounced. In the lengthy post, the president-elect claims to have received assurances from Beijing authorities that “they would apply their supreme penalty, death, for any drug trafficker caught doing this, but, sadly, they never followed through on their request, and the drugs are pouring into our Country, primarily through Mexico, at levels never seen before.”
