Le Pen threatens to bring down government over budget, last chance for PM

25 Novembre 2024

(Adnkronos) – Former presidential candidate and Rassemblement National leader Marine Le Pen has threatened to bring down the government led by Michel Barnier with a no-confidence motion on the budget law. But after a meeting with the prime minister today, according to broadcaster Bfmtv citing its own sources, Le Pen ”has decided to give the prime minister another chance on the budget” as she is counting on a possible agreement between deputies and senators on the finance law before deciding whether or not to overthrow the government.

In the meeting with Barnier, Le Pen recalled “her red lines”, including the refusal to increase taxes on electricity and the request for an increase in pensions for all to cover inflation. The head of government “appeared to me at the same time courteous and firm in his positions”, Le Pen said leaving Matignon.
