Harris and her team do not rule out a new candidacy, ‘I’m still in the game’

25 Novembre 2024

(Adnkronos) – Having disappeared from the public eye after the electoral defeat of 20 days ago, and now in Hawaii for a week’s holiday with her husband Doug Emhoff, Kamala Harris privately recommends to her people to keep her political options open. “I’m still in the game”, repeats the vice president in phone calls with advisers and allies, assuring that she does not rule out a new candidacy, for the presidency in 2028 or for the governor’s seat in California in two years.

According to Politico sources, the Democrat intends to evaluate these and other possible new political opportunities with her family during the winter holidays, a few weeks before leaving the White House to Donald Trump and JD Vance together with Joe Biden. With the latter, painful, official duties of presiding over the Senate session on January 6 that will ratify the tycoon’s victory, and then the inauguration on January 20

“She doesn’t have to decide if she wants to run again in the next six months, the natural thing would be to create some kind of entity that allows her to travel and give speeches, preserving her political relationships” says a former adviser to the Harris campaign , thus ventilating the possibility that in the near future, and in preparation for any new candidacies, Harris could create a foundation.

The most urgent thing is to define how and where she will be able to make her voice heard against the future Trump administration, trying to maintain, despite the defeat, a leading role within the party. “There’s still a desire to hear her voice, and she won’t be silent for long,” assures a person close to the vice president.

In these weeks, Harris and her husband will also have to decide logistical matters, if, having left the Naval Observatory, the vice president’s residence, they will return to their home in Los Angeles, or decide to move elsewhere, perhaps remaining in Washington.
