Germany, Scholz nominated as Spd’s candidate for Chancellor

25 Novembre 2024

(Adnkronos) – The Spd executive committee has nominated Olaf Scholz as the Social Democrat candidate for Chancellor in the early elections on February 23.

The 33 members of the executive committee unanimously nominated Scholz and the decision will have to be confirmed by the national party conference scheduled for January 11. The chancellor remained the only candidate after Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, considered much more popular than Scholz, withdrew his candidacy last Thursday. In recent days, the candidates for chancellor of the Cdu/Csu, Frederich Merz, and the Greens, Robert Habeck, have also been indicated, while on December 7, the Afd will nominate Alice Weidel as the candidate for the far-right party.
