(Adnkronos) – Twenty-eight people were rescued after the boat they were traveling on sank in the Red Sea, while 17 people are still missing, the governor of the region, Amr Hanafi, said, adding that search operations are still underway.
The boat was carrying 31 tourists and a crew of 14 and sank this morning near the tourist town of Marsa Alam.
The boat ‘Sea Story’ had left yesterday for a multi-day diving expedition from Port Ghalib, in southeastern Egypt, and was supposed to dock in the city of Hurghada, 200 kilometers north, on Friday. Governor Amr Hanafi said in a statement that some survivors were rescued by plane, while others were recovered by a warship. ‘Intense search operations are underway in coordination with the navy and the armed forces,’ the governor said.
