(Adnkronos) – The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant as well as for the head of Hamas’ armed wing, Mohammed Deif.
The three judges decided unanimously based on the accusations of crimes against humanity and war crimes: both Netanyahu and Gallant will be subject to arrest if they travel to one of the over 120 countries that are part of the ICC.
The Court also issued a warrant for Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al-Masri, also known as Mohammed Deif, for the massacre of October 7, 2023. Israel claims to have killed Deif in an airstrike in August, but Hamas has never formally acknowledged his death.
The practical implications of the decision could be limited, given that Israel and its main ally, the United States, are not members of the Court.
