(Adnkronos) – The new course announced by Transport for London (TfL) starts today, which includes a restyling of the orange ‘Overground’ network, which will change its name and be divided into six lines, each with its own name and color. The Evening Standard reports. TfL is keeping the station names under wraps, but has announced that the first to be unveiled will be the yellow Lioness line, named in honor of the victorious women’s national football team. Most of the Overground’s 113 stations will be converted starting November 25, and will be represented on the map as a white line with colored borders.
Announcing the restyling last February, Mayor Sadiq Khan said the £6.3 million operation was aimed at making it easier for passengers to navigate the Overground and to “celebrate” London’s culture and recent history. The names of the other lines should be ‘Liberty’ (grey), ‘Mildmay’ (light blue), ‘Suffragette’ (green), ‘Weaver’ (pink) and ‘Windrush’ (red). The initial goal was to complete the renovation by the fall, but there have been delays caused by cyberattacks suffered by TfL.
The inauguration will require the modification of approximately 6,000 station signs, Underground maps, digital station displays, on-train information, the Journey Planner and TfL Go maps. Andy Lord, TfL Commissioner, said: “This is an exciting step: millions of customer journeys on the London Overground will be transformed thanks to easier navigation”. “The colors and names of the individual lines have helped customers navigate the Underground for over a hundred years, so we wanted to take a similar approach for the London Overground,” said Lord. encourage more people to use our services”.
