(Adnkronos) – Hundreds of people were arrested in Amsterdam during a new night of riots that broke out during an unauthorized protest. Officers intervened in Dam Square and arrested 281 people, most of them for resisting law enforcement by refusing to comply with their directives. Eight people were arrested for possession of blunt objects, said the officers, who reported damage caused by dozens of demonstrators to buses.
However, security forces have launched an investigation into alleged police violence during these arrests, after images of actions by officers on protesters circulated on social media. “Videos are circulating on social media showing officers of the Mobile Unit intervening against demonstrators,” police said in a statement, confirming that an investigation has already been opened. Since the outbreak of violence last week during the football match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv, the city has been on high alert and most demonstrations have been banned for security reasons.
