(Adnkronos) – Few German voters want Olaf Scholz as the SPD’s candidate for chancellor in the next elections on February 23, even among SPD supporters themselves. This is according to a Forsa poll, according to which only 13% of those eligible to vote believe that Scholz should be his party’s candidate for chancellor. 57% are in favor of Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. The others do not comment.
The advantage of Pistorius is also evident among SPD voters: 58% want him as chancellor candidate, only 30% are in favor of Scholz. But there’s more: Pistorius would also have an advantage in a hypothetical electoral duel with Merz. 39% of those eligible to vote would prefer him to his opponent, while only 25% would be in favor of Merz. Even among CDU/CSU supporters, a good 22% would opt for Pistorius. Merz, on the other hand, convinces 59% of his supporters.
While Pistorius manages to gain support even in the conservative field, Merz has no chance in the left wing of the political spectrum: only 2% of SPD and Green Party supporters would vote for him. 86% of SPD supporters and 67% of Green supporters – reports Bild – on the contrary spoke out in favor of Boris Pistorius.
