(Adnkronos) – The majority of Germans would like Defense Minister Boris Pistorius to run in the next general election to replace Chancellor Olaf Scholz. This is revealed by a poll conducted by the Forsa opinion research institute on behalf of broadcaster Rtl/ntv, which found that 57% of respondents are in favor of the Social Democrats fielding Pistorius as their candidate, compared to 13% in favor of Scholz.
Among Spd supporters, 58% said they were in favor of Pistorius, compared to 30% for Scholz. Among Green voters, the only coalition partner left to Scholz after the withdrawal of the Liberal Democrats, 66% of respondents would prefer Pistorius as the Social Democratic candidate for chancellor. Among supporters of the conservative Cdu/Csu alliance, Pistorius garnered 70% of the vote.
The survey was conducted on November 7 and 1,181 Germans answered the question of who they would like the Spd to field as chancellor between Scholz and Pistorius. The margin of error indicated by Forsa is +/- 3 percentage points.
