Austria, Jewish students prevent Parliament president from commemorating Kristallnacht victims

8 Novembre 2024

(Adnkronos) – Jewish students in Vienna have prevented the first far-right president of the lower house of Parliament from laying a wreath in memory of the victims of Kristallnacht in 1938, arguing that he would have abused their memory.

The protesters, including members of the Austrian Union of Jewish Students, formed a cordon around a Holocaust memorial in Vienna’s old town, where Walter Rosenkranz was supposed to lay a wreath. The students displayed a banner that read: “The word of those who honor the Nazis is worthless.”
