(Adnkronos) – The leader of the German Christian Democratic opposition Friedrich Merz wants Chancellor Olaf Scholz to table a vote of confidence in the Bundestag by the beginning of next week at the latest, with the aim of going to the polls in the second half of January. The vote would mark the end of the coalition government. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier would then dissolve the Bundestag within 21 days. In these three weeks, absolutely necessary decisions could still be made together, according to German media reports.
