(Adnkronos) – The main German opposition party, the Cdu, is calling for general elections to be called as soon as possible: “The coalition – said Party Secretary General Carsten Linnemann – must now take responsibility for the country, i.e. close the matter”.
Germany needs a fresh start, he added, stressing that this is only possible through a new vote and a new government. Linnemann therefore ruled out the possibility of a minority government of Social Democrats (SPD) and Greens should the Liberals decide to leave the traffic light coalition.
A hypothesis that has been the subject of speculation in recent days, after the disclosure of a document by Fdp leader and Finance Minister Christian Lindner calling for a substantial “reorientation” of the government’s economic policy.
Finally, Linnemann ruled out the possibility of the Cdu joining the government: “Germany does not deserve this, and that is why new elections are needed. Period.”
