(Adnkronos) – Arrested on charges of “terrorism” and “temporarily” removed from office. This is what is happening in Turkey to the mayor of Esenyurt, one of the districts of Istanbul, Ahmet Ozer, a politician from the Chp, the largest opposition party. The news was reported by the Turkish agency Anadolu, according to which Ozer is accused of belonging to the Pkk and of having “links” with the leaders of the Pkk, considered a “terrorist organization” by the Ankara government.

In his place, the Interior Ministry announced, referring to an ongoing investigation, the deputy governor of Istanbul was appointed. The Chp immediately denounced a politically motivated move.

Ozer was born into a Kurdish family in southeastern Turkey. He was elected in March when the Chp had an unexpected success in the administrative elections. In recent years, in Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s Turkey, several mayors have been removed on charges of links to the Pkk.
