(Adnkronos) – They call it “green lockdown”. It is in force in Lahore, the megalopolis of Pakistan that is dealing with more than alarming levels of pollution. The “lockdown” has been imposed in eleven areas of the city, the second largest in Pakistan and with the reputation of being the most polluted city in the world.
Masks are back with the lockdown. The restrictions announced ‘hit’ the three-wheeled rickshaws, widely used in the city for travel and already partially banned to reduce emissions, as well as barbecues, restaurants and furnaces.
Authorities have also announced three months of ‘holiday’ for children with a history of lung disease or breathing problems and Maryam Nawaz, Chief Minister of Punjab, has invited her Indian counterparts in Punjab to “climate diplomacy” for a joint fight against smog.
