(Adnkronos) – Russia’s over-two-and-a-half-year-old occupation of Ukraine, the Middle East conflict and crisis-hit Venezuela were at the centre of talks in Rome late Thursday between premier Giorgia Meloni and European Parliament president Roberta Metsola, Meloni’s office stated.
“The main topics of the international agenda were at the centre of the talks: from Russia’s aggression in Ukraine to the crisis in the Middle East and the situation in Venezuela,” said the statement.
Meloni and Metsola also looked at the issue of common management of migration to the European Union following agreement by the bloc’s leaders at a summit in Brussels last week to use trade, development aid and visa policy as levers to speed up the repatriation of illegal immigrants.
“Lastly, special attention was paid to relaunching the competitiveness of the continent also in view of the informal European Council in Budapest on 7 and 8 November,” the statement concluded.
Meloni and Metsola met at the prime minister’s office, Palazzo Chigi.
