(Adnkronos) – Foreign undersecretary Giorgio Silli, who attended a conference in Paris on Thursday which raised a billion dollars in pledges for humanitarian aid and military support for Lebanon, underlined the government’s ongoing support for civilians and refugees in the crisis-hit county and its unwavering commitment to its stability and security, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
At the International Conference on Support for the People and Sovereignty of Lebanon, Silli noted that Italy has promptly allocated 17 euros of humanitarian aid for Lebanon in recent weeks since Israel launched a military offensive in the country, said the statement.
Silli also noted that foreign minister Antonio Tajani announced an additional 10 million euro aid package for Lebanon at a Middle East Humanitarian Conference held during the G7 Development Ministers’ Meeting in Pescara from Tuesday to Thursday, the statement noted.
Silli “also reaffirmed Italy’s strong commitment to Lebanon’s stability and security, through support for the Lebanese Armed Forces within the framework of the bilateral MIBIL training mission and participation in the UNIFIL mission, in which Italy is one of the main contributors,” the statement concluded.
